I can't remember this thing at all, but yeah the level of abstraction in animutations these days is ridiculous. Back in the day, animutations were either Monty Python-style music videos or McCain's Sexy Outrage-style animations with an actual story, that were pretty much animated bitmap comics. These days we just have garbage with "hey let's see how much shit I can pack on the screen", "hey let's see how random I can be", and "hey let's see how many memes I can throw in", usually without even making the things on the screen interact, and I'd bet that's one of the main reasons animutation doesn't really appeal to many people anymore. (And yes, I'm guilty of doing that also. Comment Commander was enough of a demoscene ripoff that I guess it's excusable, but something like Dynkur Gjallandi (did I ever release that one?) is pretty much an example of what not to do.)
And now for a real review, since I watched it again:
So yeah, although you obviously have a good idea of how to make something in Flash that doesn't look like shit, you aren't really getting the part where you put it all together. You're tweening things around with no theme, no story, and no Cicierega-Buddudslash-mrwheatley-style music video kind of thing going on, just a few images being tweened around the stage.
Go watch some music videos, some mrwheatley, some DMK if you want to make things with a plot and some Kelenar and VXO if you don't, and also watch some really early animutations (and by early, I mean Kasplat64 and antdocevil early, back when nobody could use Flash worth shit but people still made animutations that beat the polka-dotted boxers off anything made today), and try again.
